A chance to get up close and personal with a great mix of Volkswagens, old and new, with a healthy sprinkling of Audis mixed in sent Cruisin’ Photography up I-84E to Vernon.
A live DJ, a tasty free cookout, which is always a winner in our book, and several vendors, joined the show cars at the Langan Volkswagen dealership on Hartford Turnpike.
Among the most eye-catching of the show cars was English-born Joe Mehers’ beautiful Audi S4, which won the Best Of Show award. Mid America Motor Works, suppliers of air- and water-cooled Volkswagen parts, sponsored Joe’s trophy. I really enjoyed listening to Dave and Joe’s English accents as they talked about the Audi, and of course that mainstay of British TV, Top Gear.
Ron Rocco made the trip from Southington in his 1980 air-cooled, Brazilian-built Beetle and brought a touch of old-school class to the show. Mitchell Dobi drove his heavily modified 2004 VW R32 from Fairfield. The stunning blue beauty drew many admiring glances as it sat low on its hydraulic suspension.
Wasserwerks is Southern New England’s VW/Audi club and has around 30 members. The club’s next major appearance will be at the 23rd Annual Litchfield Bug-In, held on Father’s Day, June 19th, at the Harwinton (CT) Fairgrounds. The show runs from 9:00 am to 3:00 PM.
This was our first experience at a VW/Audi-only show and it won’t be our last. We had a blast!
