Heavy showers couldn’t deter a hardy band of bikers and car owners from turning out at Bart’s Drive-In for a charity bike night and car cruise on July 13th. The event, hosted by our good friends from the Elusive Ryderz Motorcycle Club and Dreamz II Reality Motorsports, was held in memory of New Haven Police Detective Rafael Segarra.
Segarra, an 18-year member of the New Haven PD, was 44 when he died. He had diabetes, and was in need of a kidney and liver transplant. He was unable to find a donor, caught pneumonia and passed away. He earned four commendations during his career and left a wife and three children. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Segarra’s family. This was the second fundraising event for Detective Segarra; the first was the Hard Hittn’ Lowz cruise and car wash in New Haven on July 2nd.
Sergio Ortiz, the Elusive Ryderz advisor and event organizer, said: “It’s great that so many people came out in this rainy weather for such a very worthy cause. We can’t wait to do hold another night like this at Bart’s again!”
The four-wheel fraternity included several members of the Low-N-Furious Auto Club, including Beatriz Lopez and her three daughters, who graciously posed with Beatriz’ Best Female trophy. Leather and Sound was well represented by Albert Caquias, Santos Negron and Gilbert Colon. Albert and Santos had waxed their cars earlier in the day, so we know who to blame for the rainy weather.
We hear that there will be another Bart’s bike night before the season draws to a close – Kathy’s already got her diary ready for her next “men in leather” fix!
