Our long and winding road wrapped up on the Enfield town green. Nearly 200 bikes and cars of all kinds came out in support of the fight against hunger at the CT’s Xotic Auto Club Car Show. Downtown Enfield, between North Main and Pearl Streets was shut down for the show.
Some rumbles of thunder heralded an impending storm, so Dave and I kicked it in gear. So many cars and bikes and so little time…
Cruisin’ Photography never tires of seeing Juan Hernandez’s 1984 Toyota Corolla SR5, done in full Scarface mode, including “gun” armrests. The Burlington, CT resident, who brought some of the many trophies the car has won, was kind enough to agree to pose for us. Once Dave had the photo lined up, other folks couldn’t resist the opportunity to photograph the car with their camera phones.
President of Dreamz II Reality Motorsports Jerry Zayas put his 2000 Hyundai Elantra on show. Resplendent with televisions and a booming sound system, the silver and purple car lived up to its “Bling” license plate. DIIR member “Shaggy’s” 2009 Scion tC always leaves me feeling groovy. And rather than try and tell you about the car, I’ll let one of Dave’s images show you this head turner.
Street Terminators President Alex Hernandez arrived in his colorful 2002 Ford Expedition. It’s a whole lotta car with quite a paint scheme and sound system.
The Vazquez family traveled from Waterbury in their 1996 Honda Accord to support the show. “Shorty” couldn’t resist teasing me. “It’s always about Juan and his Scarface car. That’s okay if you don’t want to photograph my car or my family.” Since this was the first time we’d seen Shorty this season, we grabbed a few shots to keep him quiet!
Enthusiasts won’t see another car like Juan Irizary’s 1996 Chevy Lumina. Irizary said his daily driver is a truck, but that he bought the Lumina for his eight-year old son, whose likeness adorns the hood. Juan said he’s entered a total of 22 shows in 2010 and 2011 and has 22 first-place trophies. Pretty impressive, I’d say.
Hartford-based Game Over Car Club, known for its donks, bubbles and boxes, was hard to ignore. Dave got some great angles of a Cadillac Brougham and Chevy Impala that really played up their big wheels.
All too soon the rain came down causing a flurry of activity as people folded gazebos and chairs away. We grabbed a few more shots but decided to pack the cameras away to close our three-part day and head to Enfield’s Red Robin for some welcome sustenance.
