Since Dave and I didn’t want to miss the last cruise of the summer at Vindicator Cycles in Cromwell, we headed there from Palmer Field. We went inside the store to see Tony Schiavone, Gary Collin and Tony’s dog, Harley. I teased Tony about the latest issue of The Cromwell/Middletown Chronicle and asked if he had seen Dave’s article and photographs from Middletown Motorcycle Mania. Public Relations Officer Gary brought over a framed copy of the article Dave wrote for the Chronicle on the first Vindicator car/bike show. It looked so good! He said they’d be putting it up on the wall soon. Continue reading
Wednesday, the weather held off and more than 4,000 motorcycles, from Baggers to Busas and everything in between – converged on Main Street, Middletown for a bike night of spectacular proportions.
My first taste of a large-scale bike show had been in mid-January at the Springfield Motorcycle Show. I enjoyed it so much – so many hot bikes and maybe the men in leather had something to do with it – that I couldn’t wait to go to Middletown.
The New London Motorcycle Club was out in force, spreading the word on their six chapters in Connecticut and one in Rhode Island. Vinnie wouldn’t let me leave their booth before I had taken a couple of key chains and literature about the club. He also got some of the members together for a photo – thanks guys! I see you have a Hartford County Chapter…that gives me ideas! Continue reading
Dave and I first met Tony Schiavone Jr., and Gary Collin of Vindicator Cycles in January at the Frank Maratta Auto Show. They were showing their wares on the same stand as Alan Pastrana, the renowned airbrush artist. We recently ran into Tony again at our local Staples (the Pastrana-painted Harley was the giveaway that he was inside!) where he reminded us about the cruise and bike nights Vindicator was sponsoring, starting July 9th after a June rainout, to raise funds for the Cromwell Children’s Home.
We said we wouldn’t miss it, so off we headed on a very hot Saturday to meet up with Tony, Gary and Tony’s dog, Harley. While Tony took care of business, Gary explained that Vindicator was committed to giving back to the community, hence the choice of the Cromwell Children’s Home as the beneficiary of their monthly cruises, which include August 13th and September 10th. He told us about a poker run that began at Vindicator and resulted in a $12,000 donation to another local charity, the Osterman Community Foundation. The Cromwell Food Pantry has also benefited from events held at Vindicator. Continue reading
