Dave and I shook off the winter doldrums on Saturday at The Show of Dreams – Frank Maratta’s Auto & Race-A-Rama at the Better Living Center on the grounds of the Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, MA. And what better way than looking at a good cross section of hot rods, imports, vintage, classic and muscle cars and bikes to get the first show of the 2013 season under our belts than at the 54th Maratta Show?

Ralph Barbagallo’s fine yellow Superbird and green Hemi ‘Cuda drew lots of admiring gazes, including mine. I had to smile when I saw Ralph’s daughter’s kid-size Dodge Charger on display. What else would a young tot drive? Sad to say, we couldn’t seem to find Ralph. I’m sure we’ll see him at one of the Burger King cruises. Continue reading

CT Xtremes Car Show, September 11th, 2011

CTXT091111 064Is one car show on a beautiful Sunday enough? Maybe for some people, but certainly not for Dave and me! After enjoying the Oldsmobiles in Berlin on September 11th, we headed south to Branford for the CT Xtremes Car Show at Porter and Chester.

As we drew close on Route 1, we heard the show before we saw it. And when we saw it, the Monster Truck perched atop its two “victims” first caught our eye, followed by the sheer volume and quality of the vehicles that filled two parking lots. Continue reading

CT’s Xotics Auto Club Car Show, August 21st, 2011

CTXO082111 039Our long and winding road wrapped up on the Enfield town green. Nearly 200 bikes and cars of all kinds came out in support of the fight against hunger at the CT’s Xotic Auto Club Car Show. Downtown Enfield, between North Main and Pearl Streets was shut down for the show.

Some rumbles of thunder heralded an impending storm, so Dave and I kicked it in gear. So many cars and bikes and so little time… Continue reading

Dreamz II Reality Summer Dreamz Cruise Night, July 27th, 2011

DIIR072711 041The only thing for certain about a Dreamz II Reality Summer Dreamz cruise night is that you never know what vehicles will fill the Bart’s Drive-In parking lot in Windsor.

This time around, a great-looking rat rod settled in among the classics and imports. The truck was a superb example of what appears to be the lone rule of rat rodding – to use whatever resources you have to customize your vehicle – like a wrench as the gear shift and a Pabst Blue Ribbon beer can as the radiator overflow tank. “The Home Wrecker” was further customized with an old bike in the pickup bed, what looked like two gun barrels coming out of the front fenders and a pair of Coupe de Ville rear fenders. Low-N-Furious 1st Annual Cruise Night, May 28th, 2011

LNF052811 054Cruisin’ Photography was on the road again on Saturday, May 28th. Dave and I took an evening drive to Waterbury, CT, for the first annual Low-N-Furious cruise night at Tony’s Tires and Wheels. We hadn’t been there very long before Albert and Santos from Leather & Sound turned up in their Hondas. After exchanging greetings with the guys, we saw the friendly face of our friend, Juanito, the owner of the superb “Scarface” Toyota. Juanito was on DJ duty for the evening.

A good-sized number of vehicles were already parked and being polished to perfection. The always-memorable Vanformer was there, this time in the hands of the always-memorable Todd Vaillancourt. Vanformer won the Best of Show trophy. Continue reading

Dreamz II Reality Reality Show, May 25th, 2011

DIIR052211 169Cruisin’ Photography’s next event of the season was on May 25th at Dreamz II Reality’s Reality Show, held at the Porter and Chester site in Rocky Hill, CT. Dave and I were invited to be vendors at the show, originally scheduled for May 15th until Mother Nature intervened, so we were glad to see a dry day on the 25th. The DIIR crew set the bar high with a good turnout of about 125 cars and lots of extremely attractive trophies.

It was good to see so many teams in attendance, including Game Over, Low-N-Furious, CT’s Xotics, High Life Creationz, Hard Hittin’ Lowz, BDC Auto Club, Park City Customs, Eastern Connections, Unique Touch, CT’s Most Wanted, Expensive Limitz and Elusive Ryderz. Dave and I got to renew some old friendships and make quite a few new ones. Continue reading
