Since Dave and I didn’t want to miss the last cruise of the summer at Vindicator Cycles in Cromwell, we headed there from Palmer Field. We went inside the store to see Tony Schiavone, Gary Collin and Tony’s dog, Harley. I teased Tony about the latest issue of The Cromwell/Middletown Chronicle and asked if he had seen Dave’s article and photographs from Middletown Motorcycle Mania. Public Relations Officer Gary brought over a framed copy of the article Dave wrote for the Chronicle on the first Vindicator car/bike show. It looked so good! Wednesday, the weather held off and more than 4,000 motorcycles, from Baggers to Busas and everything in between – converged on Main Street, Middletown for a bike night of spectacular proportions.
My first taste of a large-scale bike show had been in mid-January at the Springfield Motorcycle Show. I enjoyed it so much – so many hot bikes and maybe the men in leather had something to do with it – that I couldn’t wait to go to Middletown.
The New London Motorcycle Club was out in force, spreading the word on their six chapters in Connecticut and one in Rhode Island. Vinnie wouldn’t let me leave their booth before I had taken a couple of key chains and literature about the club. He also got some of the members together for a photo – thanks guys! Saturday January 22nd saw Kathy and I shake off the winter blues, give snow shoveling a break and head north to the Springfield Motorcycle Show held at the Eastern States Exposition in Springfield, MA. After checking in at the media office, we entered the hall and Kathy’s first experience at a bike show began.
Straight away we ran into fellow CT Cruise News photographer Dexter Balyeat. Dex is also the Special Events Co-ordinator with Haymond Law and had the enviable job of staffing their booth with Amanda Gosselin and the rest of the Haymond Law girls. While we were there, Dex introduced us to show organizer Doug Sousa. Doug told us that he was extremely pleased with the attendance. He was even happier when we told him about the 100+ yard line of show visitors waiting patiently to buy tickets. Continue reading
